In mythology, fairy tales or nature-religious, you could find the roots of the fantasticarts . For the great masters of past centuries,  it was taken for granted, that an artist has the responsibility to preserve knowledge, cultures, ideologies of humanity. For example: The paintings of Leonardo da Vinci, Grimm's fairytale books, "Faust" from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the modern fantasy literature.

All this is connected by somewhat eternal truth and this very truth shall outlive eternity!

Claus Urkauf - Mystik Art
Artist | Hobbyist | Digital Art
Austria
1973, a mystical year, thought Claus Urkauf when he saw the light of day. As it is with all good artists, his talents have been already discovered in his early childhood when he secretly borrowed his father’s reflex camera for his first expeditions.
As teenager he discovered his interests for distinct role-play games and fantasy novels. In the worlds of "Shadowrun" and "Das schwarze Auge" he made himself at home. The overwhelming effect of the changes in technology did not only leave Austria but even Claus in awe. So he decided, at the age of 14, to attend a technical college for electronic engineering and IT in Braunau to complete with a degree as an engineer. For not being covered with cobwebs behind a computer he started ardently tinkering with motorbikes in his leisure time, there, a few years later, he met the paintwork professional Werner Bauer from Passau, Germany.
Shortly after, Werner employed Claus as his assistant and introduced him into the world of airbrush and paintwork. Neither motorbikes nor women could feel safe from Claus' airbrush-skills when he was around.
On the search for new challenges he found the "Kunstforum für Art&Design Bad Driburg", where he got the opportunity to study classical painting focusing on nude and portrait art using mixed airbrush techniques.
During his studies he re-discovered the art of photography by taking pictures, now with his own reflex camera, as reference for his fantasy artwork. He might truly have found his passion in the nude photography, but nevertheless his works in beauty and glamour photography are outstanding. As it came along, he could manage to combine photography and painting in his diploma thesis about nude art in a fantastic surreal rendition.
Nowadays, the artist is working as illustrator and photo designer using digital media. He exchanged brush and airbrush for PC and graphic tablet.
He lives and works in Schalchen, about 35 km north of Salzburg in Austria
